DEFENCE STANDARD CABLES – CPR Cca update

Originally developed for the UK Defence industry the range of Type A, C, D, S flexible multicore cables are still made generally in accordance with MoD Defence Standard 61-12 Part 4, 5 and 6.  The multicore cables are used as interconnections for high density wiring in computers, data processing, avionic control systems, security access, military vehicles and other electronic OEM applications. As a high specification compact cable the range can also be used outside the Defence industry.

Deva now offer complete range of Eca, Dca, Cca for Type C,S,D .

Def Stan multicore cables construct

is based on a DEF STAN 61-12 specification the most popular series being Part 4 ,5 and 6. Part 4 cables are screened sub miniature multicore cables; Part 5 are screened small multi core cables and Part6 are unscreened flexible equipment wires.

Construction types vary with application but the most popular are Type A (unscreened multicores), Type C (braid screened multicores), Type S (foil screened multicores), and type D (individually braid screened multicores). Part 4 generally uses 7/0.2 TCWB conductors and Part 5 is 16/0.2 TCWB conductors.

Screening types are overall mylar for unscreened versions, aluminium foil and  TCWB for braid coverage of 70 – 93%  (customer preference).  A Drain wire is used only in combination with a screen. Rip cords and year identification threads are part of the DEF STAN specification but can be omitted if preferred.

Part 6 wire equipment (DEF STAN 61-12 Part 6 and BS4808) consists of single core tinned copper conductors insulated with pvc Type 1 (750v) Type 2 (1000V) or Type 3 (1500v) depending on operating temperature and abrasion requirements.

Cores numbers can vary from single core (Part 6 equipment wire) up to 36 cores (50 possible on request).

Core colours are single and bi-coloured and have specific make up patterns especially from 25c onwards.

Sheath types are typically PVC but LSF, LSZH and LDPE alternatives are available.

Cable can be supplied in any colour sheath but black is most popular followed by red.

Operating temperature is -20DegC to 70DegC.

The cable complies with EU RoHS 2 Directive 2011/65/EU, REACH, EN 50575 (Construction Products Regulation Class Eca, Dca, CCa) and UKCA.

If you require DEF STAN cables (standard, or specific design eg. for automatic strip/cut machines) please contact us. We can supply optional cut lengths as well as brand the cable according to your needs.
